In this workshop attendees were presented with 3 types of writing prompts: I Am From From; Card Draw Prompt (one word prompts used to recall memories); and Six Word Memoirs. Lee also provided handouts: Travel Quotes by Women (14 quotes from renowned women); “I Am From” Prompt by Ann Falcone Shalaski; How to Go to Finland, Sestina of Turku in Winter (both excerpts from M. Lee Alexander’s book Spinning the Compass); and Publishing Outlets for Place and Travel Writing. At the conclusion of the workshop, Lee suggested our AWC could develop a ‘Life Writing’ collection; as well as Six Word Memoirs.
AWC’s General Meeting for October featured a Memoir & Traveling Workshop given by M. Lee Alexander, Senior Lecturer in the Writing Department with the College of William and Mary.
Lee is a specialist in Creative writing, in particular poetry, creative nonfiction, fantasy writing, and children’s literature; twentieth-century British authors, especially those associated with the Inklings writing group; Scottish literature; folklore and oral literature; museum studies; detective fiction; the history of the book; literature with mathematical themes.
