It was a great privilege to have internationally acclaimed forensic dental expert Helena Ranta as our speaker in March. Professor Ranta shed light on the world of forensics based on her decades of investigative work in conflict zones and humanitarian disasters.
“There is no peace without justice; there is no justice without forgiveness.” This is an important phrase to Ranta. She called the 20th century “the bloody century,” when too many military wars and internal conflicts pitted sister against sister and brother against brother. She stressed that we don’t want to nourish hatred and vengeance but rather find the road to sustainable peace. Knowing the facts of what actually happened – the results of the research she and other forensic experts conduct – is one way to move toward peace.
